New Meat Processing Plant Could Be Coming To Cherokee, Iowa

CHEROKEE, Iowa – People around the community say it's a shame a facility like that sits empty when it can create jobs. The city of Cherokee agrees and is trying to do something about it.
"It's a great facility that we'd like to see put back into use, employing people in our community" says Mark Buschkamp, Cherokee Economic Development Executive Director.
Tyson shut the doors of its plant in Cherokee, Iowa in September 2014 but won't relinquish their lease that expires in 2020. The 250,000 square foot facility has been sitting empty, but paid for.
