The former Pathmark store in Ramsey closed Friday morning and will remain shuttered for at least six months while the new owners of the lease, Uncle G's Management Corp., complete a major renovation designed to transform the former A&P property into one of the company's Italian-themed marketplaces.

Other A&P-owned properties in the region — like those in Wayne, Woodland Park and Pompton Lakes — also had plans to close their doors this week and next. Because these locations failed to attract successful bidders to remain open, the fate of those locations and their employees remains uncertain.

Carl DelPrete, chief executive officer of Uncle G's, which operates stores under the Uncle Giuseppe's name on Long Island, said in an interview at the Ramsey store on Route 17 that the company plans to spend "north of $8 million" in a full renovation of the 50,000-square-foot space.
