DUMMERSTON — The managers and owners of apple orchards are celebrating a banner year as fruit hangs heavy in trees around the region.

"The phones are ringing and the emails are coming in," said Reed Miller, of Dwight Miller and Son Orchards in Dummerston. "We've just opened for pick-your-own, but we've been shipping apples for two months."

The family-owned orchard is celebrating its 20th year as a certified organic apple orchard.

"We were the first commercial organic orchard in the state when we converted the whole farm over, and not just bits and pieces," said Miller.
