PETALUMA — In an increasingly challenging environment for local businesses to find room to expand, Moresco Distributing Co. purchased a 125,000-square-foot building to double its size as sales to the Pacific Northwest grow, and Keith Giusto Bakery Supply bought Moresco’s current building to realize plans for retail sales of artisan baking products and a teaching kitchen for home enthusiasts and professionals.

Moresco Investments, LLC, purchased the hulking vacant former Workrite and Athleta building at 1450 Technology Ln. on Jan. 22 for $10.65 million from Stephens 1996 Trust, which bought it from Wells Fargo in June for $8.15 million, according to public records. Moresco Investments sold the two-decade-old distributor’s main 35,000-square-foot location to the bakery supplier on Jan. 21 for $4.2 million.

Moresco Distributing (707-773-2500, moresco.biz) had expanded to 1120 Holm from 14,000 square feet at 1460 Cader Ln. It will consolidate both operations into all the 72,000 square feet of warehouse space and 8,000 square feet of the office space, leasing the rest of the office space. The goal is to be into the new building by mid-March, and Giusto to be open with about 7,000 square feet of retail and 3,000 square feet of demonstration kitchen by June.
