World Cheese Awards 2022: Parmigiano Reggiano is the World’s Most Awarded Cheese for a Consecutive Year

Parmigiano Reggiano won 93 medals and reconfirmed itself as the most awarded cheese on the globe at the World Cheese Awards, the world’s leading international cheese competition held this year in Newport, Wales. The international jury, composed of 250 experts from more than 30 countries, awarded Parmigiano Reggiano two Super Gold medals, one to Latteria Sociale Centro Rubbianino (RE) and another to Caseificio di Gavasseto e Roncadella (RE).

Parmigiano Reggiano ends 2021 with positive results in terms of sales and prices. Consumer turnover hits an all-time high with 2.7 billion euros compared to 2.35 billion in 2020; the value generated at production is also the highest ever with 1.71 billion euros compared to 1.52 billion in 2020.

Parmigiano Reggiano has achieved its best ever result at the World Cheese Awards 2021, winning 126 medals. The World Cheese Awards is the most important cheese competition in the world, which took place in Oviedo, Spain this year as part of the International Cheese Festival from 3rd – 6th November. The international jury consisted of 250 experts who awarded Parmigiano Reggiano an all-time record of 7 Super Gold medals, 6 of which were won by dairies belonging to the National Team. Parmigiano Reggiano is the most awarded cheese in the world and won the most Super Gold medals out of all competitors.
