Spring Holidays Generate Nearly $180 Million in Retail Avocado Sales

Rising Hass avocado average selling prices (ASP) drove higher retail sales during second quarter holidays. A recent holiday retail recap published by the Hass Avocado Board (HAB) indicated increased dollar sales during Easter, Cinco De Mayo and Memorial Day. The spring holidays drove a combined 123.1 million units and $179.1 million in retail dollar sales.

Since 1997, the avocado supply from Mexico in the U.S. has jumped to more than 2 billion pounds annually1, and more than 4 billion pounds in the last two years alone2 – fueled by consumers’ love of the healthful fruit while also positively benefiting U.S. national and state economies.

California Avocado Commission Announces New President

The California Avocado Commission Board of Directors has selected produce veteran Jeff Oberman to become the organization’s new president, effective October 10, 2022. Mr. Oberman’s produce industry career has spanned 25 years so far. From 2020 to the present he served as vice president of sales – business development for PRO*ACT and was their vice president strategic programs for the prior two years.
