Seafood Prices Jump Over Last Christmas Season

Consumers will shell out more for seafood delicacies than last holiday season.

Costs of shrimp, king crab and lobster will pinch seafood eaters' pocketbooks harder than in December 2009, when consumers benefited from bargain rates on meat from crustaceans.

"Last year was a phenomenal year for the customers," said Mark Bradigan, seafood supervisor at Gerrity's Supermarket, which has nine stores in Lackawanna and Luzerne counties. "We had a glut of lobster tails due to the recession and a lot of big shrimp out there dirt cheap."
