Lobster fishermen in Prince Edward Island will find it easier to sell their own catches next season, thanks to an amended provincial rule that will allow family members to do the selling.
Licences to sell lobsters have been available for the past year, but have up until now been valid only for the fishermen.
"It was brought to our attention by some fishers that … they were in too late and they didn't have the time, and it was more convenient to have a family member go out and peddle the catch while they are out at sea fishing," said Fisheries Minister Neil LeClair.
LeClair said the province has responded by loosening the rules to allow a family member to sell the catch. New rules will allow fishermen to have a spouse or a child sell lobsters on their behalf.
