First Sea-Based Salmon Farming in Africa

African Aquaculture Company and AKVA Group have collaborated to establish Africa's first commercial sea-based salmon farm off the coast of Lüderitz, Namibia. This facility will operate under optimal conditions for salmon, with a production license for 51,000 tonnes, marking it as one of the largest aquaculture projects in the southern hemisphere. CEO Helge Krøgenes emphasized the importance of aligning with a partner that brings experience and technology to create a robust industry in Namibia.
African Aquaculture Company and AKVA group have entered into a collaboration agreement to develop the first commercial sea-based salmon farming facility in Africa. The site is planned outside Lüderitz in Namibia, an area with stable currents and optimal temperatures for salmon production of 10–16 degrees Celsius all year round.
African Aquaculture has been awarded a production license for 51,000 tonnes of salmon, making the project one of the largest aquaculture ventures in the southern hemisphere.
