The commercial harvest of red snapper in South Atlantic waters will close this week.

According to a bulletin issues by NOAA Fisheries, reports indicate that the 2014 catch limit of 50,994 pounds is approaching. The closure will take effect Sept. 9.

During the closure, the sale and purchase of red snapper are prohibited. The closure applies in both state and federal waters.
