US Foods Wins 2015 Food Safety Leadership Award

Rosemont, Ill. – US Foods has won the 2015 Food Safety Leadership Award from NSF International. Winners were announced today during the 2015 Food Safety Summit at the Baltimore Convention Center.
“At US Foods we have a philosophy of continuous improvement, and we’ve built an industry-leading food safety program,” said Jorge Hernandez, SVP, Food Safety and Quality Assurance, US Foods. “We’re honored to receive this award and thrilled to have our efforts recognized by NSF International and our industry peers.”
US Foods was specifically awarded for its efforts to promote food safety throughout the company by being the first foodservice distributor to achieve Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) certification for all its distribution centers.
The NSF International Food Safety Leadership Awards recognize individuals and organizations for real and lasting improvements to food safety. NSF created the awards program in 2004 to encourage innovation in educational programs, processes and technologies to advance food safety.
Each year, an independent panel of food safety experts from academia, industry and the regulatory community reviews nominations from around the world to select the recipients. Nominations are evaluated on the basis of innovation, design and contribution to the advancement of food safety.
