Superior Farms Becomes National Lamb Supplier For Commissaries

DAVIS, Calif. – The Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) announced today that it has awarded its lamb and veal business across the country to Superior Farms, the largest vertically integrated American lamb supplier in the United States. More than 250 commissaries will now be on the program.

DeCA operates a worldwide chain of commissaries that provide groceries to military personnel, retirees, and their families, offering significant savings to these patrons. In years past, the agency maintained multiple suppliers across the country. Management decided that, to be most effective and provide the freshest supply chain, they needed the program to be under one national umbrella.

“We’re thrilled to supply American products to American troops and retired military from coast-to-coast,” said Craig Powell, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Superior Farms. “It’s the highest quality product available to military patrons and at the same time it’s a great boost to our dedicated American family ranchers.”

Global Military Marketing (GMM) is the actual Contract Holder to DeCA and will provide the ROA Contract and the sales network needed to service the account. With more than 75 sales representatives and 490 merchandisers worldwide, the company will support Superior Farms mission to lead the American lamb industry through innovation, quality, and customer focus.

“Our goal is to provide the highest quality protein and value products to the military patrons around the world,” said Paul Stagner, President and CEO of GMM. “We’re going to use all our tools to promote American lamb and veal and make this program a success.”

DeCA allows approved patrons to purchase goods at cost, plus a 5% surcharge. The agency feels that providing these savings help support military families and recruit and retain the best and the brightest military personnel.

The commissaries will be carrying a total of 53 SKUs nationwide, offering the full range of primal and sub primals as well as further processed and case ready items. A number of packaging types will be implemented in different parts of the country to maintain freshness and optimize shelf life.
