Safeway Closing 10 Stores Across 3 States

Supermarket chain Safeway, operating under parent company Albertsons, is closing 10 locations across Colorado, New Mexico, and Nebraska, primarily due to poor store performance. Most closures (eight) will take place in Colorado, with all locations shut by Nov. 7. In a statement, the company emphasized that it regularly assesses store performance and will assist affected associates in finding positions at nearby stores.
Supermarket chain Safeway is closing 10 locations across three states, the company confirmed to USA TODAY.
The grocery store chain, which operates under parent company Albertsons, said in a Sept. 10 statement it would be closing locations in Colorado, New Mexico and Nebraska due to store performance. The majority of the closures (eight out of 10) will occur in Colorado, and all doors will close on or before Nov. 7.
“We continuously evaluate the performance of our stores, and occasionally, after long and careful deliberation, it becomes necessary to make the difficult decision to close certain locations. We are working to place affected associates in nearby stores wherever possible,” the statement said.
