The Shawnee City Council on Monday approved a property tax abatement to keep McLane Foodservice Inc. in town.
The city also will issue $16.5 million in industrial revenue bonds to help the Texas-based distributor buy and renovate its 244,000-square-foot warehouse at 8200 Monticello Road.
McLane expects to add five jobs a year to its current 185 employees during the 10-year term of the abatement.
The company will make payments in lieu of taxes equal to half its property tax bill, which totaled about $394,000 this year. It is acquiring the building from W.P. Carey & Co. LLC, which originally planned to lease it to AmeriServe Food Distribution before that company abandoned its plans to occupy the building.
