Select Houston-area H-E-B stores are now offering a new line of specialty foods and other items under the name "Primo Picks."
Primo Picks products are exclusive to H-E-B, company spokeswoman Cyndy Garza Roberts said, and include a variety of barbecue sauces, cilantro chili lime chicken salad, a green sauce made with poblano and jalapeno peppers, chocolate truffles, limited-time-only ice creams and wines priced under $3.
Specialty foods grocer Trader Joe's will be opening its first three stores in Houston later this year. The Monrovia, Calif.-based chain sells domestic and imported foods, deli items, beer and wine and other items.
Roberts declined to say if Primo Picks are a direct response to the arrival of Trader Joe's in Houston but did state that San Antonio-based H-E-B believes "competition is good for retailers and customers alike."
