SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Food Services of America (FSA) has been recognized by The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) as an Ocean Hero for its outstanding environmental leadership and support for the MSC and its mission.
FSA's MSC Chain of Custody certification assures customers their seafood purchases can be traced back to a certified sustainable fishery.
Jeff Chester, FSA Director of Quality Assurance, said this program is important to a growing number of customers who want to know the origin of their seafood.
"Our leadership in this area lets our customers know that a certified item is sourced from a sustainable and well-managed fishery," he said. "It means that seafood item is traceable from ocean to plate."
According to Maggie Beaton, Commercial Manager for Marine Stewardship Council, the award was to show appreciation to FSA's efforts and for FSA’s commitment to the MSC's work in contributing to the health of the world's oceans by recognizing and rewarding sustainable fishing practices and encouraging sustainable choices in the seafood marketplace.
FSA one of the country’s largest broadline foodservice distributors. The privately-held, family-owned company serves customers throughout the mid-west, west and Alaska. You can see more of FSA’s sustainability efforts at www.fsafood.com.
