The Environmental Protection Agency has recognized the Food Lion supermarket chain with a ninth consecutive Energy Star award.
The honor is for sustained excellence, which recognizes continued reductions in energy consumption, as well as a strong corporate commitment to promoting superior performance on energy issues.
Food Lion has focused on managing its energy consumption for nearly a decade. Efforts include conservation, reducing carbon dioxide emissions and cutting energy consumption by more than 25 percent since 2000.
