Kroger will get a break on property taxes to build a large distribution center in Boone County.

In return, the state and county will reduce the state and local property taxes by 50 percent, worth about $3 million over 20 years.

The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority approved the incentive Thursday.

Kroger purchased the newly built, 674,000-square-foot building it will turn into a distribution center on Mount Zion Road in Florence. Kroger will invest $70 million into the project and employ 100 full-time employees at the facility. The average salary will be $38,000 a year, according to documents submitted to KEDFA.
