Nogales, AZ – Ta-De Distributing is introducing its new tri-colored mini-pepper pack labeled Royal Gems this week. Grown in Mexico and packed in 1-lb. totes under their heritage El Rey brand, this is the first time the company has branded its own mini peppers. It has been packing these for processors and private label for the past seasons.
“We’re responding to a need by our customers for a superior-quality branded product with packaging that pops at display”, said Ta-De president Robert Bennen, adding that his product has the uniform size, smooth skin and bright color consumers look for. He also noted that the bell pepper category has risen 3% in sales over one year (Nielsen), making these items a top-seller in many produce departments.
A shopper information campaign is also underway to support Royal Gem sales, with an on-pack listed consumer website featuring selection tips and preparation ideas for these and their signature bagged beans: http://elreybeans.com. The bean totes were first introduced in Canada and are now being rolled out in the U.S. Ta-De’s in-house chef is also in the process of developing unique recipes using these items especially for the foodservice segment.
Ta-De Produce is a third-generation, family-run produce distributor founded by Carlos Bennen in the 1950s.
