WINNIPEG – Peak of the Market’s second annual “Potahto Week” gets underway Saturday, with local restaurants competing for bragging rights over the best Potahto dish in the city. From February 23 to March 3, Winnipeggers can visit any of the eighty-six participating restaurants to sample their tasty creations and vote online for their favourites.
“We are thrilled to have so many great local restaurants participating in Potahto Week 2019,” said Larry McIntosh, President and CEO of Peak of the Market. “I encourage Winnipeggers to try as many creations as possible and support their favourites by voting online.”
Restaurants have come out in full force to compete in this year’s competition, with eighty-six locations throughout Winnipeg putting their culinary skills to the test. Local Manitoba potatoes will be uniquely showcased by each restaurant in an attempt to surprise and delight the palates of Winnipeggers.
The public will determine the 2019 winner by voting online for their favourite dish. A complete list of restaurants and their signature Potahto creations can be found online at www.potahto.ca.
“Potahto Week encourages us all to think outside the box when it comes to putting this versatile vegetable to use. Local chefs have risen to the challenge, and, like many Winnipeggers, I and the entire Peak of the Market team look forward to sampling what they have created firsthand.”
Started in 2018, Potahto Week aims to promote the numerous health attributes of Manitoba potatoes by encouraging Winnipeggers to try new dishes and see for themselves how versatile and delicious the vegetable can be. The week seeks to help change Manitobans perspectives on potatoes and show that potatoes can be an elevated and exciting vegetable enjoyed at their families’ kitchen tables.
