National Mango Board To Host Spanish Virtual Industry Outreach Meeting

Orlando, Fla. (December 8, 2010) – The National Mango Board (NMB) will host a virtual outreach meeting on December 15 at 4 p.m. EST to share information about the board’s results and a proposed increase in the assessment on fresh mangos. Participation in this web-based virtual meeting is free, and registration for the event is quick and easy. The event will be presented in Spanish.

Attendees will learn about the proposed assessment increase that will be considered by USDA. Topics will include an overview of how the National Mango Board invests the industry’s funds currently and how the proposed increase will be used to fund expanded marketing and research programs. The board’s results and impact on the mango industry will be discussed. Attendees will also learn how the process of increasing the assessment through USDA rule-making will work.

The board has hosted a series of virtual outreach meetings in 2010, but this is the first event to be held in Spanish, according to NMB executive director, William Watson. The board hosts meetings each year to meet with producers, packers and exporters in the top six countries that send mangos to the U.S. “This virtual meeting is a supplement to our foreign outreach meeting schedule and a way to share information about the proposed assessment increase with our stakeholders who prefer to communicate in Spanish,” said Watson.

Mango industry members can register for the free event at this link or they can contact NMB industry relations specialist, Marilda Peele, at mpeele@mango.org or via phone at 407-629-7318 x 106. Information about the virtual outreach meeting is also available on the board’s website, www.mango.org, under the industry tab on the calendar page.
