Jack Cancellieri of Legacy Farms and Legend Produce Mourned

The produce industry mourns the passing of Jack Cancellieri, 77, a respected industry leader, entrepreneur, mentor and friend who was a founding partner of Legacy Farms and Legend Produce and whose influence reached far beyond the businesses he was involved with throughout his distinguished career.

Jack was a true produce industry pioneer whose entrepreneurial vision, work ethic and commitment to people helped build successful businesses and, more importantly, enduring relationships throughout the fresh produce community. He understood that the foundation of any good business relationship is one built on trust, personal connection and honoring one’s word—principles that guided him throughout his life and career.

Over the years, Jack earned the respect and friendship of growers, shippers, customers, employees and colleagues throughout the industry, many of whom became lifelong friends. Those who worked alongside Jack knew him for his extensive produce knowledge, determination and loyalty, but also for the personal qualities that made him such a respected and well-liked member of the industry. He was generous with his knowledge, willing to mentor others and always ready to offer his support. His influence extended far beyond the companies he helped build, touching generations of produce professionals.

Jack’s character remains an important part of the culture at Legacy Farms and the other organizations with which he was associated. However, his contribution to the industry cannot be measured simply by the companies he helped establish. His greatest impact was reflected in the people he worked with, the example he set and the way he treated those around him. He had a way of making people feel comfortable and valued. Approachable, personable and genuine, Jack understood the importance of treating everyone with respect.

He represented the best of a relationship-driven produce industry—one where a person’s word mattered, business was personal, and success was measured not only by what was accomplished but by how people were treated along the way. In an industry where relationships can span generations, Jack developed friendships and professional connections that extended well beyond the day’s transaction.

Above all, Jack will be remembered as a devoted family man, trusted business partner, mentor and loyal friend. Those who worked alongside him will remember his entrepreneurial spirit and determination. Those who did business with him will remember his word and his handshake. And those who knew him personally will remember his friendship, generosity and the simple pleasure of spending time with him.

While Jack’s passing leaves an undeniable void, the legacy he leaves behind will continue to grow for seasons to come—carried forward by the family, friends and colleagues whose lives he touched and by the produce community he helped strengthen. He will be deeply missed, but his friendship, generosity and the values he brought to the industry will endure in the many people fortunate enough to have known him.

That may ultimately be Jack’s greatest legacy—not simply the businesses he helped build, but the people and relationships that remain because of him.
