Monte Vista, Colo. – One of the largest U.S. potato growers and shippers added two potato-industry veterans to its sales team, poising Farm Fresh Direct (FFD) to further strengthen its distribution, sales and customer relationships.

Matt Glowczewski and Roger Christensen recently joined in sales management and sales/business development capacities and, with a collective 45-years’ potato sales and production experience in the San Luis Valley, intend to bolster existing sales and uncover new business opportunities and channels.

“Farm Fresh and our growers are committed to strategic growth, by consistently delivering high-quality potatoes, innovating and building strong relationships, through the right people,” said Jamey Higham, FFD chief executive officer/president. “Matt and Roger provide the expertise, character and drive to do just that. We’re excited to have them on the team and know their abilities to collaborate with customers and ensure potatoes are positioned to drive sales – combined with supply chain knowledge – will quickly be evident.”

Glowczewski brings 33-years’ produce industry experience to the role – including 20+ years working in potatoes in the San Luis Valley – having sold throughout North American retail, distributor and foodservice channels. He most recently worked for RPE as a sales account manager, and prior, as a sales rep at Canon Potato Company; after starting in 1985 at Pueblo, Colo.-based Andrews Produce (now Andrews Food Service) in the warehouse.

Glowczewski is ready to apply his widespread knowledge to a more strategic sales-management role; and with a Farm Fresh sales team that includes many he has known since moving to the Valley in 1995.

“I’m leaving a great bunch of people and joining another great bunch of people” said Glowczewski, who will guide a team of up to eight as sales manager. “When you’re looking at a company, and people have been there a long time, it’s always a good sign of a successful company. I’m looking forward to working on this team.”

Christensen delivers 32 years of produce experience, including 22 in potato sales and production in the San Luis Valley. He presently operates 100%-organic Maverick Potato Co. (which he will continue doing alongside his FFD responsibilities), preceded by general management and sales at Skyline Potato. His produce career began at Salinas, Calif.-based Papazian Worldwide Distributing Inc., where he worked as a produce broker for 10 years.

In his sales/business development role at FFD, Christensen looks forward to driving store-level potato sales, through dynamic outlets – assortment, merchandising and digital – particularly in the organic realm.

“I’m excited; joining Farm Fresh means working with a first-class, quality organization,” Christensen said. “Most growth in the fresh market is in organic, and foodservice is an (untapped) opportunity.”
