FRESNO, Calif., February 1, 2010 The California Raisin Marketing Board (CRMB), the state marketing order that represents the nearly 3,000 growers of California Raisins, has announced the appointment of James F. Painter, Ph.D., R.D. as Nutrition Research Director, assisting in overall strategy development and leading the scientific nutrition research panel for health and nutrition on behalf of the CRMB.
The CRMB has a long history of supporting credible, scientifically sound research related to the health and nutrition benefits of raisins, said Larry Blagg, Senior Vice President of Marketing for the CRMB. We are delighted to have Dr. Painter on board with us as Nutrition Research Director to continue these important efforts. With his knowledge and vast experience, we look forward to continuing a comprehensive nutrition research program in the years ahead.
Dr. Painter received a Master’s degree from Oklahoma State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. He has been a Registered Dietitian for nearly 30 years and is a member of the American Dietetic Association and the Society for Nutrition Education. Currently, Dr. Painter is Chairperson of the School of Family and Consumer Science at Eastern Illinois University and previously taught Nutrition and Hospitality Management at the University of Illinois.
Dr. Painter has been the recipient of numerous grants that have focused on changing the nations eating environment and has more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and presentations to his credit. He produced the video Portion Size Me and co-authored The Art of Nutritional Cooking 3rd ed., a nutrition text for culinary students.
Noteworthy are his 200- plus publications, articles, interviews and public-service presentations to the press, media and educational outreach. He has served as principal investigator for more than 30 funded grants and was co-principal investigator on 12 funded grants. Other professional involvement includes serving as a consultant and product development for numerous groups, developing and teaching numerous in-classroom and distance education courses, developing outreach software, and advising and touching the lives of innumerable undergraduate and graduate students. He and his wife Rose live in Charleston, Illinois and have two sons, two daughters-in-law and a granddaughter.
