Applewood Fresh Growers LLC has expanded to offer fresh Michigan asparagus in addition to its apples. The asparagus season in Michigan lasts from approximately May 10 to June 25. This is a tight window for the harvesting season, so the company’s partner, New Era’s American Asparagus, is sharp day in and day out on production.
“We are excited to partner with New Era’s American Asparagus to bring our customers the best asparagus Michigan has to offer. This partnership is the next iteration in our strategic plan to diversify,” said Nick Mascari, president at Applewood Fresh.
Michigan is now the largest asparagus growing region in the United States thanks to its unique, sandy loam soil along the shores of Lake Michigan. Product in the New Era’s American Asparagus packingshed is cooled with a hydrocooler immediately after harvest. The product is then placed in a cooler prior to packing inside a completely refrigerated packingroom. Caleb Coulter, owner of New Era’s American Asparagus, said, “We keep this process as short as possible to increase our customer’s shelf life & quality of the product.”
Michigan asparagus has excellent flavor and a long shelf life. Consumers prefer locally grown asparagus so Applewood Fresh offers new marketing tools to support the Michigan asparagus program. The eye-catching marketing material includes grower and product POS, recipes, high resolution photos, and more. https://applewoodfresh.com
