LAKELAND – Passion for Florida citrus was a common trait attached to all three inductees to the Florida Citrus Hall of Fame at Friday’s induction luncheon at Florida Southern College.
This year’s inductees were Tim Hurner, 75, a former citrus extension agent and director of the Florida Southern citrus horticulture program; the late Richard Kinney, who served for 29 years as the chief executive at Florida Citrus Packers when it was based in Lakeland; and Peter McClure, 62, a citrus grower and production manager who advocated for scientific research.
“His passion for the industry was second to none,” said Dan Richey, CEO of a Vero Beach packinghouse, recalling his friend and colleague, Kinney. “This wasn’t a job for Richard; it was his passion.”
