“Beef can be included and part of a healthy diet.” says Traci Wilson, the director of nutrition with The Wisconsin Beef Council. “With our 2011 New Year’s resolution we all want to get fit and healthy, people tend to lean towards fish and chicken when they are dieting or just trying to maintain their weight. People are often surprised that beef can be apart of their diets to lose and maintain strength and good heart health.

“Beef is 20 percent leaner; I think a lot of people don’t realize that beef is lean and that there are over 29 cuts of government guidelines for lean meat. Which means the cuts have less than 10 grams of total fat,” adds Wilson. “It’s important to choose those high-quality healthy proteins, such as beef in order to help you lose weight. Beef is delicious and will keep you satisfied. Beef also allows you to just be healthier overall, not like a fad diet.”

All beef is an excellent source of protein but what most people are surprised about is that beef also has 10 essential nutrients such as, protein, iron selenium, B12, zinc, niacin, B6, phosphorus, choline, and riboflavin. Two of these essential nutrients are lacking in most American diets specifically iron and choline.
