New diet guidelines from the federal government say we should be eating less meat, and as you might expect, that's not sitting well with the beef industry here in Texas.

Every five years, the USDA releases new nutrition guidelines, outlining what they think we should be eating and what we shouldn't.

The newest recommendations were just released and a big part of it suggests we cut back on red meat.

Texas A&M Registered Dietitian Meghan Windham says, "I think the perspective that has really changed the most is more of a plant-based diet, so really focusing on fruits and vegetables as a whole and more on those leaner meats and that's where the red meat comes in as being more of a controversial topic."
