Grayson's Smithfield Foods plant will soon experience major growth, company officials said last week as they announced a $1.2 million expansion of the Carter County manufacturing facility.
The expansion is expected to create 40 new jobs at the producer of Smithfield brand spiral sliced hams. The expansion at the Grayson facility will help increase production capacity by 20 percent, according to the company.
“In the last several years, our growth has allowed us to invest in our facilities and create new opportunities for those living in the communities we call home,” said Jeff Salyer, Grayson plant manager for Smithfield Foods, Inc. “We are proud to invest in Grayson and look forward to welcoming new members of the Smithfield Family at this facility, which helps put holiday hams and other mealtime favorites on millions of tables each year.”
