VANCOUVER – If you want to know where your beef was born and raised, BC cattle farmers are working on a country-wide labeling program.
It may not be in place for another year or so, but Kevin Boon with the BC Cattlemen Association says they're working on a national labeling program so you can know which province your steaks, ground beef and rump roasts came from.
"The supermarket meat counters, they need to know that the consumer wants that. We're telling them that they do, or that they can access it. But until the supermarket hears it from the consumer, they're not going to identify it for them because it's an extra cost and they have to see the return back to them, and we as ranchers, want to see some return back too."
