ROCKFORD — Jeni Haines of California has had a contentious summer.
Starting in May, Haines and a revolving band of volunteers have protested throughout the country the farming practices of suppliers of Arkansas-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc.
“I started in Texas, then I went to Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, all up the east coast,” Haines said. “The list goes on and on. We’re going to La Crosse, Wis., tomorrow.”
Monday was Rockford’s turn as Haines, another person from California-based Mercy for Animals and two Midwestern volunteers showed up at the West Riverside Boulevard Super Walmart with a 10-foot tall inflatable pig in a crate. The pig was covered with sores.
