FRANKFORT, Ky. – Beef cattle producers in Kentucky have voted to assess themselves an additional $1 per head on cattle marketed in the state.
The state's Agriculture Department says the final tally in last month's statewide referendum was 1,816 in favor of the state check off and 1,423 against it. The assessment takes effect next April 1.
Dave Maples, executive vice president of the Kentucky Cattlemen's Association, says the assessment will be used to promote the cattle industry in Kentucky. The entire $1 state check off will be used for programs in Kentucky.
