Fremont City Council Gives Final Approval To Costco Chicken Plant

FREMONT, Neb. — The Fremont City Council approved a redevelopment agreement with Costco spelling out the city’s and the company’s responsibilities when it comes to building and financing a large poultry processing operation.

The unanimous Tuesday evening vote ended a long series of contentious meetings in which the city has set the table for the project in the face of heated opposition.

One supporter called the vote the end of a “long slog.”

Despite hours of testimony from opponents over several months, “there is a very large, silent majority that thank you for your service,” said Fremont resident David Mitchell, an attorney, thanking the council.
