SAN ANGELO, Texas — A white knight has rescued 200 jobs at a San Angelo meat processing plant.
A Texas Panhandle company has purchased San Angelo Packing, a firm that last month announced it would close because of supply problems.
Caviness Beef, which operates beef processing plants in Amarillo and Hereford, in Deaf Smith County about 50 miles southwest of Amarillo, announced the transaction Friday morning.
Trevor Caviness, president of the company, said the staffing levels will be restored when the plant reopens — although previous employees will have to reapply for their jobs in an open application process. The Stokes family, which formerly owned it, will continue to be part of the management.
