Bacon lovers: Your nightmare of higher prices appears to be at an end.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s monthly cold storage report shows healthy increases in supplies of red meat, particularly bacon-making pork bellies, in the nation’s commercial storage facilities through last month.
Bacon lovers who suffered through a 25 percent increase in retail prices last year because of tight supplies will be cheered by news that supplies of bellies are up 21 percent from a year ago.
Frozen pork supplies in February were up 7 percent from the previous month and up 9 percent from last year. The storage report for February normally shows about a 2 percent increase year over year.
