Lexington, KY – Just over a year after Alltech Angus, a controversial statewide beef marketing deal was launched, two key players are out.
Regular readers may recall I gave considerable attention (a three-part story) last year to the deal involving Alltech, Inc., of Nicholasville, Minnesota-based PM Beef, a couple of Iowa feedlots and Lexington's Critchfield meats.
The goal was to provide certified, Kentucky-raised — though not Kentucky-finished — Black Angus beef to consumers across the state — the first time a line of "homegrown" beef products would achieve such wide distribution.
Because of that pledge to assure Kentucky origins, the state department of agriculture's Kentucky Proud program gave the deal its seal of approval and granted more than $100,000 to Critchfield, along with a couple of other Kentucky food distributors, to promote the Alltech Angus line.
