Greenwoodnursery.com announces the addition of the Polygonatum odoratum ‘Variegatum’, commonly known as Solomon's Seal Variegated, now available in one-gallon containers and 4 inch pots. Perennial of the Year for 2013, the Solomon’s Seal is a native perennial beauty for shaded woodland gardens.
Grown mostly for its clean variegated, soft green foliage, which turns yellow in fall, the Solomon’s Seal is a wonderful plant for any shade landscape.
Cheryl D. Jones, owner of Greenwood Nursery, states, “We've added a new smaller size to our production of the Solomon’s Seal variegated. Being named Perennial Plant of the Year for 2013 will create a larger interest in this naturalizing shade plant. Beginning this summer and throughout next year, readers will be learning more about this under used and extremely under appreciated perennial. We now have a 4-inch pot size available in addition to our one-gallon container size Solomon’s Seal. It’s certainly an investment plant for any garden, but the 4 inch pot size makes it an affordable plant to most any gardener.”
Maturing about 14 to 18 inches tall, the tops arch slightly. With burgundy stems, the green and white variegated foliage brighten any shaded areas. During spring evenings the flowers of the Solomon’s Seal, emit a lily like fragrance.
