National Garden Bureau Pledges Support For Growing Solutions Farm On #GivingTuesday

Downers Grove, IL – National Garden Bureau has joined #GivingTuesday, a national movement to support charitable causes during this season of giving.

Coinciding with the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday and the kickoff of the holiday shopping season, #GivingTuesday will inspire people to take collaborative action to improve their local communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they support and help create a better world. Taking place on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 – the Tuesday after Thanksgiving – #GivingTuesday will harness the power of social media to create a national  movement around the holidays dedicated to giving, similar to how Black Friday and Cyber Monday are known as holiday shopping days.

National Garden Bureau (NGB), by using crowdfunding site Indiegogo, will use #GivingTuesday  as a way to bring more attention to using gardens as vocational therapy. One garden in particular, the Growing Solutions Farm, a program of the Julie+Michael Tracy Family Foundation, is the garden of choice for NGB’s 2014 fundraiser. This farm is a leading example of a 360 degree approach to training young adults with autism the skills needed for a fulfilling career and independent life.

“#GivingTuesday is a great time to remind ourselves of the spirit of the holiday giving season and the value gardens and gardening can bring to those with needs,” said Claire Watson, NGB President.
