The family that grows flowers together, well, has a heck of a lot of fun together.
“I love what I’m doing, and we have a blast,” says Leah Masopust Papsin, as she takes a break from watering New Guinea impatiens at Brierwood Nurseries on Thomaston Road in Morris on a warm, sunny afternoon. “It’s so much fun to be with the family and doing what I love.”
It should come as no surprise that Leah followed in the muddy boot prints of her parents, Daniel and Gloria, owners of the nursery. She grew up watching them grow beautiful things and vegetable plants as long as she can remember. It seemed natural for her to pursue the same career path. Both Daniel and Gloria Masopust graduated from the University of Connecticut (where the couple met) with degrees in horticulture, and their daughter followed suit, matriculating from UConn with a similar degree three years ago. She quickly joined the family business, while working toward an MBA from UConn. By the way, the couple’s other two daughters, Caitlin (Leah’s twin) and Alison, also grew up with dirt under their fingernails and work at Brierwood doing various jobs at the nine-acre nursery that also serves as the family homestead.
