I am just back from the annual symposium held by the Garden Writers Association, and plant introductions are fresh on my mind. Held this year in Pittsburgh, the meeting always includes a trade show to introduce dozens of new plants to garden media.
I only wish Texas AgriLife Research had occupied one of the booths to show off some of its about-to-be-released winter-hardy hibiscus. There were way too many gold and black Pittsburgh Steelers colors visible; I could have used some Texas backup.
Without question, attendees would have swooned over these new hybrids in bloom. There was nothing like them on the show floor.
