Hellebores, The Winter Blooming Perennial, Will Be Popping Up Soon

FORT COLLINS, CO – Six years ago hellebores weren't on my radar. I thought they were a fussy group of plants that needed extra care and special sites. I've learned they are exotic but they aren't fussy.
Hellebores are winter blooming perennials. Along the Front Range they bloom from February to April. The bloom time is how they get their common name. They are known as Lenten Rose.
The flowers vary. Some flowers drupe on an eight or ten inch stem. Other flowers stand straight up above the leaves. The flower color can be maroon, pink, light shades of red or white.
