The most impressive and promising flowers and plants for the coming year have been chosen during the Novelties Show at IPM Essen 2013. The ‘Colour Your Life’ Award, for the plant with the most overall added value, was also handed out again.
Five different types of novelties were considered at IPM Essen. The ‘perennial’ category was won by Primula hybrid 'Claddagh', a Kennedy Irish Primrose bred by Fitzgerald Nurseries from Ireland. Lisianthus russellianus 'Rosanne Green' triumphed in the cut flower category. That plant is a creation of ornamental breeder Sakata.
The gold medal in the flowering house plant category was awarded to Senecio cineraria 'Todaisy', a product of the Dümmen firm from Germany. Verbena hybride 'Twister Red' from Syngenta Seeds won in the garden and balcony plant segment. Lastly, the best tub plant novelty at IPM Essen turned out to be Mahonia eurobracteata ’Soft Caress’, from Son & Koot nurseries.
