Multiple societies and organizations, including the Orchid Society of Arizona, Desert Valley Orchid Society and Tuscon Orchid Society are dedicated to informing orchid-enthusiasts that the gorgeous tropical flowers can in fact grow and thrive in the dry climate.
The year-round sunlight and a small amount of humidity provided by a greenhouse gives the plants good conditions to bloom up to four times per year, Mark Dimmitt, a member of the Tuscon Orchid Society told the news source.
In addition, other species native to the state, such as palm bark, may be a perfect potting medium for orchids, according to the Orchid Society of Arizona's website.
