Refrigerated Foods Association Partners with the Partnership for Food Safety Education

Refrigerated Foods Association (RFA) is excited to announce that we are joining the nonprofit Partnership for Food Safety Education (PFSE) to help educate consumers on the steps they can take while handling food to reduce the risk of a foodborne illness.

An estimated one in six Americans contracts a foodborne illness every year, and an estimated 128,000 Americans are hospitalized every year because of these illnesses. Half of these hospitalizations are of children five years old or younger. These illnesses are preventable and educational efforts on safe food handling steps that can be taken during meal time for families across the nation is one approach to reducing foodborne illnesses.

By becoming a Partner of the Partnership for Food Safety Education, Refrigerated Foods Association is committing to improving public health outcomes by reducing foodborne illness. Partners of the Partnership for Food Safety Education are thought leaders, collaborators, amplifiers and sustaining supporters of PFSE’s year-round efforts to raise awareness of safe food handling practices for home cooks.

“The RFA is excited and proud to join forces with the Partnership for Food Safety Education. Our mission is to advance and safeguard the refrigerated foods industry, and part and parcel with that mission is to produce and deliver safe food products from farm to table,” says RFA President Josh Knott of Knott’s Foods in Paris, Tennessee.

The Partnership for Food Safety Education is the creator and steward of the Fight BAC!® campaign, a set of evidence-based consumer messages that help people reduce their risk of foodborne illness when handling and preparing food at home.

Fightbac.org is a go-to website for consumer flyers, videos, images, recipes and other resources, free of charge. These resources are used by a national network of health and food safety educators across the United States who in return reach families and individuals in their communities.

About the Refrigerated Foods Association (RFA):

The Refrigerated Foods Association (RFA) is an organization of manufacturers and suppliers of refrigerated prepared foods united by a common interest: to advance and safeguard the industry. We develop programs to enhance and promote food safety, strengthen the operating practices of our member companies, and foster a networked community to share information. By pooling resources, the association can develop valuable programs that an individual company might find prohibitively expensive. Members include manufacturers and suppliers of wet salads, refrigerated entrees and side dishes, dips, desserts, soups, and ethnic foods, as well as companies engaged in business operations related to the refrigerated foods industry.
