Boulder, CO – Hope Foods, a natural food company from Boulder, CO, has been selected as a finalist for the 2013 Colorado Companies to Watch Award.
According to its website, Colorado Companies to Watch is a unique statewide awards program recognizing growing companies that fuel the economic fire of the state. Colorado Companies to Watch honors companies that develop valuable products and services, create quality jobs, enrich communities and create new industries throughout Colorado.
“We believe we were nominated for this award because we have worked hard to innovate both from a marketing and an operational perspective,” Hope Foods President Robbie Rech said. “The natural food industry continues to grow and provide tremendous opportunity, and we are working to capture that opportunity by providing exactly what consumers want, which is the best-tasting, healthiest, and most authentically natural product available.”
Examples of Hope Foods’ innovation abound.
Last month, Hope Foods invested in Colorado’s first High Pressure Processing (HPP) machine. HPP is a post-packaging, non-thermal pasteurization method of killing microorganisms and extending shelf life an average of 2-4 times for organic and natural food products.
“HPP is an alternative to heat pasteurization,” Hope Foods Sr. Marketing Manager Stephen Villanueva said. “For the natural-foods industry, for people who don’t want to add heat or don’t want to add preservatives, you put it under extreme pressure, like 87,000 psi (pounds per square inch), and it literally busts up the bacteria.”
Hope Hummus, a division of Hope Foods, recently launched hummus stick packs, which are single servings of hummus ideal for on-the-go consumers. While most times dips and spreads like hummus come in 8-12 oz containers, Hope Hummus is now providing it in a 1.75 oz version perfect for a single serving of hummus.
The Companies to Watch award honors second stage companies that develop valuable products and services, create quality jobs, enrich communities and create new industries throughout Colorado. The yearlong program is hosted by the Colorado Office of Economic Development and the Edward Lowe Foundation, and will conclude at the Colorado Companies to Watch Gala Awards Dinner on Friday, June 28th, 2013. Around 800 companies are nominated each year, with about 100 becoming finalists competing for 50 top spots.
