The matzo balls, sweet-potato pancakes and cheese blintzes are fresh and, for the first time, available ready to eat at three Giant Eagle locations in central Ohio.
The Pittsburgh-based grocery chain has joined Kroger in expanding kosher offerings, sought not only for religious reasons but also by those who believe kosher food is safer because of rules governing its preparation.
“In recognizing that there is a wider audience for kosher foods in addition to the Jewish community, we decided to add 15 of the more popular items to our prepared-foods” offerings, said Larry King, who oversees the new kosher items in Giant Eagle’s prepared-foods section.
