Ocheesee Creamery To Sue Florida Over Skim Milk Labeling

When is skim milk not “skim milk”?
That appears to be a question federal courts will decide.
The Calhoun County, family-run Ocheesee Creamery plans to file a First Amendment lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Tallahassee today against Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam and the head of the state’s dairy bureau for refusing to let it label its pure skim milk “skim milk.”
“It just does not make any sense,” said Mary Lou Wesselhoeft, who owns the dairy with her husband, Paul. “We just want to be able to call our skim milk ‘skim milk,’ and we don’t want to add anything to it.”
