Scott Ambruster of Creamy Acres Farm participated in a Fuel Up to Play 60 Touchdown event at the NovaCare Complex with Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Mack Hollins and more than 100 local students.
Fuel Up to Play 60 is the youth wellness program founded by dairy farmers through the National Dairy Council and the NFL, in collaboration with U.S. Department of Agriculture. Students are encouraged to eat healthy foods – including milk and dairy products – and to get at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day.
Students taste-tested yogurt parfaits at the event with the goal of taking the recipes to their schools to incorporate in breakfast and lunch menus.
“As the ‘fuel up’ part of the program, our mission is to make sure students understand the importance of choosing nutritious foods like milk, fruit vegetables and whole grains,” said Armbruster. “As a dairy farmer, it’s rewarding to see the success of Fuel Up to Play 60 and knowing the students and advisors are doing their part to make a healthier school for themselves and their friends.”
Schools reaching the “touchdown status” – the highest level of participation in the program – are awarded prizes like trips to football stadiums and other events. Dairy farmers participate in the events to help kids make the connection from farm-to-food in support of our school breakfast programs.
