Clear Lam Packaging Supports New Yogurt Pouch Packaging For Stonyfield

Elk Grove Village, Ill. – Meeting consumer demand for convenient, portable, resealable packaging, Clear Lam Packaging, Inc., has worked closely with Stonyfield to develop special packaging films for a new yogurt pouch that answers the demands of today’s consumers. The new yogurt pouch line is designed for on-the-go enjoyment and includes YoBaby®, YoTot®, and YoKids® Yogurt branded pouches. A recent report from Freedonia forecasts that demand for all stand-up pouches will grow at 6.5 percent annually and represent 27.2 percent of the market by 2023.

Increasingly, stand-up pouch packaging is replacing preformed bottles and jars for distinctive shelf appeal and to reduce direct materials and packaging weight for cost savings and a reduced environmental footprint. The resealable cap provides convenience and portion control to help reduce food waste and provide consumers with a reliable packaging solution for on-the-go consumption.

“Grab-and-go snacking is fueling demand for portable packaging while consumers gravitate to organic, nutrition-rich products,” said James Sanfilippo, president and CEO of Clear Lam Packaging, Inc. “Stonyfield has been at the forefront of these trends with their natural, organic foods for babies, toddlers and kids. Clear Lam is proud to support this new product launch with a lightweight and durable packaging solution that meets real consumer needs while delivering sustainability benefits.”

Designed for consumer convenience, the new yogurt pouch packaging films produced by Clear Lam are used to assemble a pouch with a fitment on a horizontal form-fill-seal (FFS) machine. The film material was selected for its ability to support a 60-day refrigerated shelf life, run on high-speed processing equipment and absorb distribution abuse. The material’s stiffness also helps the finished packages stand up straight on store shelves for better merchandising.

Critical to this packaging application was ensuring that each package was properly formed, with

strong side seals and tight fitment seals while maintaining very high line speeds.

For nearly a decade, Clear Lam has invested heavily in research and development to commercialize new packaging technologies that minimize the impact on the environment through the company’s Project EarthClear™ initiative.  These efforts include the development of renewable materials such as bio-plastics, cellophane and paper; materials that incorporate recycled content; and lightweighting technologies that reduce weight and enhance cubing for improved efficiencies in warehousing, transportation and merchandising.
