Consumers may soon start seeing more Earth Balance buttery spreads on grocery shelves.
In light of sales struggles for Boulder Brands' legacy Smart Balance spreads, the Boulder-based natural foods and spreads company disclosed Thursday that it would substitute the all-natural Earth Balance for under-performing Smart Balance products.
Officials for Boulder Brands made the announcement as part of the company's third-quarter earnings release in which — as expected — the Boulder-based firm posted a significantly wider net loss.
During the three-month period that ended Sept. 30, Boulder Brands lost $132.16 million, or $2.17 per share, on revenue of $133.9 million. A year ago, the company lost $1.58 million, or 3 cents per share, on revenue of $118.5 million.
